Hervey, James 1714-1758
James Hervey (26 February 1714 – 25 December 1758), English divine, was born at Hardingstone, near Northampton, and was educated at the grammar school of Northampton, and at Lincoln College, Oxford.
Here he came under the influence of John Wesley and the Oxford Methodists, especially since he was a member of the Holy Club. Ultimately, however, while retaining his regard for the men and his sympathy with their religious aims, he adopted a thoroughly Calvinistic creed, and resolved to remain in the Anglican Church.

9. Curious Summer-house--No Relaxation of the Divine Law, as to the Precept or the Penalty--Its inflexible Strictness, and principal Ends

A SERIES OF LETTERS
1. Aspasio opens the correspondence with some important articles of duty, designed to facilitate Self-examination and promote conviction of Sin
2. Theron, convinced of the iniquity of his life and the evil of his heart, sees the necessity of a better righteousness than his own--Desires a farther explanation and a fuller proof of the doctrine under debate

10. Aspasio enumerates the much richer Benefits resulting from the Imputation of Christ's Righteousness--Shews their happy insidence on Holiness of Heart and Obedience of Life
