Armstrong, Amzi 1771-1827

The Rev. Amzi Armstrong, D.D. (1771-1827) The Rev. Dr. Amzi Armstrong was born in Florida, Orange County, N. Y., on December 1, 1771. He began the study of languages when he was quite young, under the tutelage of the Rev. Amzi Lewis, then pastor of the Church at Florida. Subsequent to this he spent two years as a member of Dr. Dwight's school at Greenfield, Conn. He was never connected as a student with any college. After studying theology under the direction of the Rev. Jedediah Chapman, he was licensed to preach the gospel by the Presbytery of New York, October 23, 1795. He was installed pastor of the church in Mendham, N. J., November 29, 1796, and continued in this relationship for twenty years. On October 2, 1816, he took charge of an academy in Bloomfield and remained its Principal until about a year before his death, March 4, 1827.http://www.phcmontreat.org/bios/Bios-A.htm
