Newton, George 1602-1681
George Newton was a non-conformist divine, a native of Devonshire and was educated at Exeter College, Oxford. The Act of Uniformity in 1662 deprived him of his living and preaching violations landed him in prison for a number of years. Newton's preaching is said to have been 'plain, profitable, and successful.' He was the author of an 'Exposition and Notes on the 17th Chapter of John,' 1670, and published several sermons.
